On the surface, the exhibition explores how engineering design and fine art—traditionally regarded as distinct practices in terms of their respective functions—can converge through the shared framework of “machine philosophy.”

At its core, this inquiry emerges from the question of the human–machine relationship implied by the exhibition title, Breathing Machine.

Humanity now uses the concept of transhumanism to describe a new vision of the human shaped by nanotechnology, genetic engineering, cybernetics, and artificial intelligence. Beyond the optimistic outlook on technological civilization driven to its limits by anthropocentrism, transhumanism calls for anthropological reflection and critical reconsideration.

The exhibition thus seeks to move beyond the binary division between human and nonhuman, as well as the anthropocentric understanding of machines. Instead, it presents the machine as another agent—one that coexists with humanity and accelerates us toward the future.
