The Gateum Festival, held under the theme Fresh Start, will take place over three days at the Jangcheon Hall of the Kwanglim Arts Center and the Concert Hall of the Seongnam Arts Center.
Featuring interviews with concert guides and performers, the festival is designed as an event where audiences can communicate, participate, and enjoy the performances together. It was conceived with the hope that everyday life, exhausted by the COVID-19 pandemic, could begin anew—and that the ordinary yet precious moments of the past might finally return.
Participating artists include conductor Hyun-soo Ra, concert guide Si-hyung Kim, pianist Seon-joo Cho, double bassist Jun-ha Moon—selected as a New Star Musician—conductors Ga-hee Cho and Jin-tak Moon, concert guide Seon-joo Cho, composer Young-kook Kim, pianists Ji-in Hwang, Young-ran Oh, and Jeong-hwa Heo, violinist Danny Koo, and concert guide Jeong-a Kim.
The festival will also present media paintings on digital canvases, combining works of visual art with classical music videos.
These works bring together Ensemble Gateum’s planned concert series, The Museum That Tells Classical Music, and works from The Land and Landscapes of Korea, a special exhibition organized by Art Museum Ryeo in Yeoju. Created through a collaboration among Ensemble Gateum, Art Museum Ryeo, Eoullim Studio, and STUDIO AM, the exhibition serves as a showcase for a new form of classical music-based media art.
The second Gateum Festival began with a simple question: “What if audiences could experience something beyond merely listening to music?” By bringing together music, visual art, and a variety of engaging experiences, the festival aims to offer audiences something both enjoyable to hear and compelling to see.
